The Maldon Viking Sword of the Windlass Battlecry! Collection has a blade crafted from 1065 high carbon steel. The blade was sharpened and tempered to a 50-52 HRC hardness. The guard and pommel are mild steel and the grip is wrapped in strips of supple black leather and the thick blade tang was given a robust peen on the pommel to give it a solid, overall construction. The blade and its hilt fittings are blued to possess an antiqued, battle-worn appearance.

The leather scabbard is fitted with a pair of swivel-riveting belt loops. Its steel locket and chape are finished with a matching blued finish. The sword comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

The Battlecry! Maldon Viking sword has a characteristically wide blade with a wide, weight-reducing fuller. This is a blade form that lends itself well to strong chops and hacks all along its length. The spatulate tip retains this chopping ability right up to the tip, though this type of tip does not lend itself well to thrusting when compared to more tapered forms. This is fitting however, for comprehensive armor was a rarity on the Dark Age battlefield – these blade forms clearly show a preference for forceful cutting by Viking warriors.

Great Price, Great Sword The sword feels, looks, and cuts great. The sheath holds the sword well and rests on the side right. The design is historically accurate, the finish is not but it still looks great and is not meant to be accurate. The sword comes sufficiently sharp, could be sharper but it does what it needs to do. The sword is strong even cutting deep into a 4″ pine log while taking no damage.

Outstanding Sword! Received the Battlecry Maldon Viking sword today, and I am extremely pleased. The sword is a beauty, and the quality of construction, … awesome, for a mid price sword. They have raised the bar with this Battlecry line of swords, and I plan to get a couple more ! KOA, ….. awesome as usual!

Worth the Cost I’ve had this sword for months now, and it’s great. Tough blade, extremely solid and durable construction, historically based in the design, and with a finish that makes care really easy. The only two drawbacks are 1st; When opening the box for the first time, I noted a very very slight warp in the blade about 1″ from the tip. Not a big warp, only a mm or so off, but noticeable if you’re looking closely. AND it’s worth noting that in reading other reviews for this sword, more than one other had found similar, minor warps. And 2nd; The grip length is about an inch too long for historical accuracy (The proper techniques for this particular era of swords relies on tight grips capped with wide, “catching” pommels). Not that I would presume the Battlecry smiths would ever be seeing my little review, but if they did, 10/10 if they would shorten the grip by half an inch or so.

Great sword without too much price I purchased my windlass maldon viking sword through another website (it was on sale for the past christmas season). This sword is an amazingly good cutting sword with a point just acute enough to be decent at stabs as well. It isn’t a heavy sword but because of the weight distribution, it definitely feels tip heavy which is good as it’s primarily a cutting sword. Only downside is the black finish, however it isn’t hard to remove if you want a more historically accurate steel color.

Absolutely love it!!! Beautifully crafted and if feels better than any viking sword I have ever held. The comfortable grip and light weight almost make it seem lighter than it is. Could not be more happy with this sword.

More than expected for the price Well crafted and very sturdy. Has a great point of balance for the type of sword and I love the look. Very satisfied!
