This 14th Century Kettle Helm is crafted from 18 gauge steel; the blackened interior is lined with an adjustable, internal suspension liner of leather and the helmet is ready for wear with an integrated, adjustable leather chin strap with an antiqued brass buckle.

A practical and surprisingly protective helm, this Kettle Helm is an improvement on designs from earlier centuries; a concave dome aids greatly in deflecting the force of a blow over a flat-topped and angular design. The brim is turned downwards in a conical fashion which provides greater protection for the upper parts of the face by cutting off more angles of attack than a straight brim. The brim not only protects from downward blows and projectiles from on high, but it also ensures that lateral strikes connect farther from the face and skull than closer fitting helmets.

Often a kettle helm was combined with a mail coif to provide protection for the sides and back of the head and neck. A more advanced form of this was achieved by pairing a Kettle Helm with a gorget and bevor to provide plate protection to the neck and lower face whilst leaving the eyes with the relatively unobstructed field of vision a kettle helm offers.
