Cold Steel Facon Knife

The national knife of Argentina, the Facon was and is the everyday companion to the Gaucho whether on the open pampas plains of Argentina or on the wide ranch. Its all-purpose design is readily used for dispatching livestock and game, preparing and cutting the evening meal, repairing saddle and tack and for self defense or even duels of honor. Its large and wide cutting blade excels in all these tasks and its everyday usefulness ensure it a prominent place in the belt of the Gaucho. Variations of the knife were commonly used and worn among many of the immigrants and settlers to Central and Southern America and its design can be traced back to the 14th century Iberian peninsula of Spain and Portugal.

The Cold Steel Facon has a large foot-long blade forged from 1090 high carbon steel. The grip is well-polished Malaysian Sal Wood which is surmounted by a bolster and grip cap of nickeled steel. Included with this iconic Argentinian knife is a sheath of stiff and thick leather with a belt tab and an embellished chape of nickeled steel which is lavishly adorned with scrollwork design.
