Birds of peace and war adorn this katana, foremost among them the hunting hawk. Long a favored symbol for the Japanese nobility who used them to hunt, the hawk symbolizes martial skill, heroism and generosity. Crafted by Hanwei, the blade of this katana is an L6 Bainite blade. Bainite is high carbon steel that has been heat treated and rapidly cooled to form the steel into a strong micro-crystalline structure. The edge of the blade has been further hardened to produce a martensite steel structure. This combination imparts great strength whilst the blade retains flexibility and shock absorption.

The tsuba and Koshirae of this katana are of black iron detailed in golden birds. The habaki and seppa are of brass. The wood tsuka handle is covered in white rayskin and wrapped with forest green Tsuka-Ito of silk. Gold snake menuki lie beneath the ito wrapping. The wood saya scabbard is finished two-tone striped green lacquer. Its kojiri, koiguchi and kurikata fittings are of polished buffalo horn. A silk sageo of dark green and light green streaks is knotted onto the saya. The sword comes with a black cloth sword bag and a wood-boxed traditional maintenance kit.
